Near this colonization village there was an old village in the year 1100 called El Bayo. That’s why it ended up with the same name.

Its main source of income is based on agriculture and the food and agriculture industry. The current population is 354 habitants.

ORIGINS

El Bayo was founded on the 8th of April, 1959. Most of its new habitants came from Tiermas, although there were others coming from Ejea, Uncastillo, Biota, Nuévalos, Carenas, Farasdués, Rivas y Gallur.

ARTISTIC HERITAGE

The ancient village of El Bayo dates back to the year 1100. Ramiro II, the Monk, founded a Cistercian Monastery in that location. Nowadays, this monastery in addition to other three medieval buildings and a necropolis, also medieval, make up a group of ruins known as “The Towers of El Bayo” (Las torres de El Bayo). It used to be a very important Romanesque artistic-historic set.

NATURE

There are green areas and a pond with ducks when you enter the village.
